Repair, Restore & Retrain
Having a baby is like going into battle. We have to be focused, it takes a toll on our mental and physical strength and without doubt, there will be blood. Our body goes through a lot and is totally different when we come out the other side. Our body has served us well but it can take a lot of getting used to; we may not be able to do the things we once so easily could, it’ll look different and it’ll feel different. And that’s amazing. These classes are all about getting to know our new body, feeling for our limits, challenging it and regrouping our mind and body.
A bad personal experience at a post-natal fitness class led me to start up my own. My ethos is to provide safe fitness for mums and babies, in an environment which promotes friendship, confidence-building and fun. Society has led us to put pressure on ourselves to return to our ‘pre-baby’ body and we’re risking our health by jumping back into fitness before we’ve properly repaired our weakened muscles.
There’s a lot of pressure on mums to feel like they have to ‘bounce back’ to their pre-baby body. Whilst I can’t guarantee your ‘old’ body back, I can promise you a body which is best equipped for long-term health and one which is prepared to help you lift, carry and move with your growing baby.
There are 2 classes for Mums & Babies:
WARRIORRR Repair, Restore & Retrain
WARRIORRR focuses on 3 main areas that every post-natal mum needs:
Repair – pelvic floor & core muscles
Restore – re-building fitness to support your growing baby
Retrain – getting you fitter than ever
At each session, especially your first, we’ll check for diastasis recti to see if and by how much, your rectus abdominus has separated. Pregnancy stretches the muscles down the front of our stomach and in some cases, they may not return to their original position. Whilst not immediately harmful, if left untreated, diastasis recti can lead to hernias and even prolapses. Many of the exercises in WARRIORRR help return these muscles to their original position.
What you need to know:
Who’s it for: WARRIORRR is for mums (must be at least 6 weeks post-natal) with babies who want to repair and restore their body after birth. These Highbury post natal fitness classes are low impact but will tighten, tone and strengthen.
When: Tuesdays 3.45-4.45pm
Where: Christchurch Highbury (opposite the little clock tower), 155 Highbury Grove, London, N5 1SA
What to bring: Your own mat.
How much: £10 a session

WARRIORRR Buggy Burn
Buggy Burn focuses on:
Strengthening – time to repair that muscle loss! It can be a shock at how weak we feel after birth but these tailored exercises target the muscles which need the most strengthening.
Cardio – re-building heart-healthy aerobic fitness
Shaping & sculpting – we don’t leave any part of the body out! Legs, bums, arms and tums all get attention in these classes.
These sessions are more suited to mums who have been to at least 4 – 6 of the Repair, Restore & Retrain classes so you know whether you have any stomach muscle separation and have begun to strengthen your core and pelvic floor. Whilst there’s no jumping or running in these sessions, it helps to be aware of your ‘form’ and technique to ensure safe exercises. I’ll be watching everyone with an eagle eye though. I am good at spotting when mamas aren’t breathing or holding themselves properly!
What you need to know:
Who’s it for: Buggy Burn does exactly what is says – you will definitely feel the burn after! A fun, all-weather outdoor class for mums who are looking to take their post-natal fitness up a level.
When: Mondays 2.30-3.30pm and Fridays at 11am
Where: The enclosed area of Highbury Fields opposite the BANDSTAND – the one which is furthest from the netball courts.
What to bring: Water, your baby either in a buggy or sling.
How much: £10 a session

Are babies welcome? Yes, absolutely. They can either hang about in their buggy which you can bring into the room or you can place them on a communal mat.
I don’t have a mat. Where can I get one from and do I really need one? The church floor for the Tuesday sessions isn’t suitable or comfy for some of the exercises we’ll be doing so a mat is needed. You can buy one for approximately £10 from Zakti in Angel or online. Sweaty Betty also do them but expect to pay much more. They’re really useful and can be used for many things eg as something to sit on during outdoor picnics and if you’re thinking about taking part in other Warrior classes you may find them useful.
You don’t need a mat for the outdoor Buggy Burn session.
I’m not fit. Does that matter? It doesn’t matter what your starting point is, this class is open to all levels of fitness. These are designed to leave you unable to walk but will work your essential muscles gently and you can work at your own pace.
I’m already fit. Would these classes still benefit me? You may be running marathons but these classes can still help. They work on strengthening and repairing areas of the body which are often neglected or overlooked but which are absolutely necessary for future health.
How soon after giving birth can I attend these sessions? You’re welcome to join once you’ve had your 6 / 10-week post-natal check providing the doctor is happy with your health.
What should I wear? Wear comfy clothes which you find easy to move about in. There’s no jumping so there’s no need for a sports bra and the indoor classes are done barefoot or in socks. Please wear trainers for Buggy Burn.
Personal Training & Private Classes
I am also available for pre and post natal personal training. Get a regular group of at least four people together and I can train you all at a location of your choice. This can be pregnancy or post-natal groups. Email me for more information.
