For anyone who’s thinking about getting started in boxing, BJJ, Kickboxing or MMA or have just begun, then I’m pretty sure you’ll love this Anatomy of a Boxing Glove infographic from Ringside. It gives you everything you need to know choosing the best boxing glove for you in one handy infographic. It’s also a bit of a looker. Just looking at this makes me want to get into a ring and start training. My favourite glove? The one called ‘Invictus’, not only because its description is ‘to deliver more damage to your opponent’ but also because of its awesome name.
Ringside has a fascinating history. Started in 1978 by John Brown, he was fed up with the poor quality and high prices of the boxing gear around and so after trying and failing to get the brand he worked for to make changes, he set up his own equipment company named after the gym he trained at, Ringside. As a kid with a small build, he decided that boxing would help him beat the bullies and ended up competing in amateur competitions for several years. It was a natural transition from there to becoming a coach which helped him realise that something had to be done about the badly designed boxing gear. More than thirty years, the brand has become a leader in the fighting world, supplying boxing gloves, headgear, handwraps, punching bags, skipping ropes and even boxing rings (no, I’ve no idea how they ship them, either).
Anyone up for a bit of boxing next year? I could do with someone to go with.
