An interview with Warrior Mum & Author, Elizabeth Mundy

January 15, 2019 by elizaflynn Leave a Comment

Elizabeth Mundy and Ted

Elizabeth (Liz), is an Islington mum and an author. I first met Liz when she started coming to my Warrior Mums group fitness classes. She’s one of those women who seems to be superhuman; alongside work and being pregnant and having a baby, she also seems to have found time to write a book or…

Kanada-Ya kids menu review

HB is a foodie, just like his mama. And just like his mama, he loves Asian food. Ok, so he’s not yet come around to accepting dumplings but I’m sure he will… We had our most recent foodie adventure at Kanada-Ya, where they’ve just launched a new kids menu and had invited us down to…

A 5 Minute post-natal workout to strengthen your glutes

BUT WHERE DO YOU GET THE TIME TO EXERCISE WITH A LITTLE ONE?! This is one of the most comment questions I get asked from new mums. A lot of mums don’t realise just how time-consuming newborns and mumhood can be; everyone tells you they sleep a lot which is true, but they also feed…

Hello Fresh romantic dinners

Happy Valentines! There’s no doubt been talk of all the aphrodisiacs to eat in order to get the loving vibes flowing but according to subscription recipe box service, Hello Fresh, it’s not about oysters, asparagus, strawberries and pomegranates. But rather steak, roast dinners and curries. Yes, you heard me. Steak hits the hotspot for the…

Chop Chop – the 20 minute, £20 hair cut

chop chop 20 minute hair cuts

I’m pregnant with my second child, I have too much shit to sort before my life gets turned upside down again and I really want to get my hair cut. It’s too long and just sits there. I feel like Morticia from the Addams Family, or as someone once said to me, ‘Cher’. I’d thought…

Review: Shea Moisture Fruit Fusion Texture Spray

February 4, 2018 by elizaflynn Leave a Comment

Shea Moisture Fruit Fusion Texture Spray

I was gifted the Shea Moisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Texture Spray (what a mouthful!) to try out. I think the PR company knew just how gross my hair is after a workout… I’m a very low-key beauty person; for my face, I moisturise and chuck on eyeliner and as for hair, well, it’s lucky…

Arthur: Mummy, I’m going to tell you a joke. Why Arthur: Mummy, I’m going to tell you a joke. Why did the elephant go to the river?
Me: Er. Because he needed a swim?
*silence from A as he processes what I’ve just said - I start to think he didn’t actually have a joke and I might have just told the punchline…*
Arthur (eventually): No! Because he needed to wash!

I laugh because it’s just so crap.

Arthur: Was it funny?
Me: No.

Me: Ok, I’ll tell you a joke (I have 2 jokes that I know and both are terrible.) What’s orange and sounds like a carrot?
Arthur: *confused thinking face*
Me: A parrot!

We all laugh, me the most because it’s a spectacularly good joke.

Arthur: My turn! What’s orange and sounds like a carrot?!
Me: I’m pretty sure this isn’t going to be a joke but… I cannot possibly imagine, what’s orange and sounds like a carrot?
Arthur: A carrot!
Me: 🙄

Hector: Jokes are BORING!

Anyone else’s kids just not get jokes yet?

Yesterday afternoon was something out of my worst Yesterday afternoon was something out of my worst nightmare. I’d resigned myself to several hours stuck on the sofa acting as pillow and slave to a sick Hector after having had to pick him up from nursery due to a temperature, and said goodbye to all hopes of making it to the first session of a baby massage course.

H was sad and grim but not sick enough for me to have to do anything aside from stick the telly on. He even ate lunch. The boys’ dinner time is where it all went tits up.

Imagine the scene. Arthur eating spag bol. The baby wrestling a boob (is it too early to start teething?!) Me spooning pasta into Hector’s open mouth.

THEN SUDDENLY Hector throws his hands over him mouth and bits of vomit spray out the sides as I move like I have never moved before and shove a cooking bowl into his face. I’m holding the bowl in place on Hector’s lap with one foot while also trying to put a screaming baby somewhere safe from the literal fountain of puke which is gushing out his mouth AND nose. Of course, I’m gagging and retching and trying to avoid Hector’s sicky hands which are reaching for me. Yup. Just when my child needs me most, I refuse to let him touch me.

Im actually horrified. Puke is my worst nightmare. And I had a giant bowl of it in my hands and a vom-covered child clawing for my attention over the screams of a baby who was wondering why he’d been so rudely wrenched from the boob and thrown into his bouncer.

I eventually managed to compose myself enough to haul Hector into the shower and clean him up enough that I felt safe giving him cuddles without encountering random chunks. Annoyingly, by the time Tom had arrived back, summoned by my frantic SOS SAVE ME FROM THIS PUKE call, the situation was under relative control and I’d even stopped retching.

Of course, Arthur remained absolutely unfazed by this whole situation and continued to stuff his face while eyeing us disinterestedly.

Love parenthood! ☺️

Happy Father’s Day 💕 To the Daddy who never s Happy Father’s Day 💕 To the Daddy who never shouted at us because his ‘serious’ voice was terrifying enough 🤣, who has always been there on the end of the phone whenever I’ve needed advice, who tells the most fabulous stories, and gives the best hugs.

“I’m going to love you and kiss you and hug yo “I’m going to love you and kiss you and hug you forever!” Hector is essentially Elmyra Duff from Looney Tunes. He LOVES Caspian with such ferocity that it’s terrifying. As are his boisterous attempts to pick him up 😱

I feel like Caspian is after the quiet life. And that he’d like nothing more than to peacefully contemplate life. Instead, there’s a Hector lying in wait for Mummy to put the baby down somewhere, so he can yell HELLO BABY in his face, cover him in wet kisses and pump his arms and legs like he’s an almost empty hand sanitiser bottle 🙄

I think the last photo sums up their relationship quite nicely ☺️

“The best day EVER!” yelled Arthur! This shin “The best day EVER!” yelled Arthur!

This shiny star won FIVE coconuts at the coconut shy at the Highbury church summer fair today. He had a victory dance, kissed his hairy coconuts, and then had to negotiate with the stall holder about whether he should take home any more coconuts if he has more goes. In the end, he was allowed to play (and take home any winnings) if he threw from where the adults had to stand 🤣

Won’t lie, I was quite proud ☺️ But now we have 3 coconuts - to eat… any suggestions for what to do with them? (We gave 2 away - there’s only so many nuts I can deal with in the house).

It happened. I’ve lost my position on the Hector It happened. I’ve lost my position on the Hector League Table. For the last 4 years, I’ve been above @tjjgash …

H: “Why does it have to be a Daddy bedtime?”
Me: “Don’t you like Mummy bedtimes anymore?”
H: “Not so much.”

————

Arthur: “Mummy, Hector prefers Daddy now.”
Me: “Lovely. Who do you prefer?”
Arthur: “I like you both.” (Ever the diplomat!)

———-

H: “I don’t want you to die but if Daddy dies I’ll be REALLY sad.” (Goodness knows why he was thinking about such a morbid topic… Maybe he knew I was close to strangling him because of all these wonderful comments… 🤔

——-

Mummy walks into the room. No reaction.
Daddy comes home. “DAAAAAAAAADDDY….” And H flings himself at him.

*sigh*

At least with Caspian, he has to love me because I’m the one with the boobs… 🤣

Little vandals! Popped into the @vandalkids_london Little vandals! Popped into the @vandalkids_london pop-up at @oldspitalfieldsmarket yesterday for a morning of @artplaylondon spray painting, tote-bag personalisation and corgi decorating. After having been forbidden from even touching the spray paints I have, Arthur was pretty excited to actually have a go.

Hector shunned all the activities and instead lay on the floor, ate snacks and played with the dog.

Vandal Kids are a new kids clothing brand which are all about clothes they can play in without getting wrecked. We bought a couple of short sleeved hoodies which are waterproof, wind proof and stain proof on the front and hood which will definitely help with the longevity of their clothes. I have high hopes that these will remain one of the few bits of clothing the boys have which aren’t stained from paint, dirt and goodness knows what else 🙄

Now if only they did these in adult sizes… 😃

Might have been overdoing it recently… thought I Might have been overdoing it recently… thought I was doing quite well with sleep but it turns out 4 weeks of snatches of sleep thanks to this sleep thief has chipped away at my resilience.

Anyway, it all came to a big ugly teary crescendo when I bawled my eyes out because I turned up too late for my appointment to register Caspian. Turns out they weren’t too keen on having a hysterical mum hanging out in their foyer and luckily one of their team finished an appointment early so they could squeeze me in.

I’m not sure I was any less snotty or cry-y, but I was very appreciative.

I was less appreciative of the fact I’d totally forgotten to wear boob pads so as I got up to leave I realised I had one soggy boob. It was also rather depressing how low down on my jumpsuit it was. Turns out as well as a soggy boob, it’s also saggy. Hurrah!

Note to self: prioritise sleep even more and spend more time watching Netflix and chilling ☺️

New mums out there - how you doing?!

"Eliza has been a dream come true for this very reluctant exerciser! My only goal when I started my PT sessions was to not dread the next session and actually want to persevere with regular exercise. Not only has Eliza got me looking forward to our weekly sessions but I’m also looking to make improvements on my performance every time I see her. I don’t feel that I’m working to her agenda and goals but to my own, which I’m incredibly grateful for as other PT's have gotten fed up with me pretty quickly. She’s incredibly thoughtful, heroically energised, always goes 'above and beyond' and really knows her stuff. I’m jolly glad to have found her."
