As someone with more than their fair share of hair, keeping my tresses under control can sometimes be a little frustrating. I’ll never forget the humiliating and painful experience of mum trying to get a thin-toothed comb through it whilst I shivered in a vest and pants every morning before school. Nor, my dad’s bursts of exasperation when it was his turn.
Upon discovering that there were actually implements out there that were designed to get through my hair with less pain than the comb, I wept tears of joy and thanked the big hairy god and rapidly make the change to a Denman. And I’ve loved them ever since.
Unfortunately, I was unappreciative. The Denman was a bit boring, the shape was so ‘bleurgh’ and the colour so red and black. It was time for a change. There was only brush for me. The Tangle Teezer was curvy, it was colourful (I could even get it in my favourite colour!), it looked like a hedgehog and most importantly, it would apparently one of the best brushes for detangling hair quickly and easily.
Being out and about a lot, I decided on a Compact Styler and went for a hot ‘pink sizzle’. After an especially sweaty boxing session, I showered and gleefully pulled out my very own Tangle Teezer, sneaking glances at others to see if they were looking over enviously. Whether they were or weren’t, it soon became apparent that my apparatus and I weren’t getting along. No matter what I did, these flimsy little bouncy bristles weren’t going through my hair. I’d even split my hair up into sections as they advised on the website but still, it was like brushing a carpet.
I’m sorry Tangle Teezer. You and I just aren’t going to get along.
Bring back my trusty Denman. Plus, you can’t sing into a Tangle Teezer, it just doesn’t work.
Where to buy
The Compact Tangle Teezer in ‘Pink Sizzle’ costs £12.95 and you can buy it directly from their website
If you don’t think the Tangle Teezer can handle your hair, try the Denman. It’s like the Doberman of hair brushes and will soon have your tresses under control. My preferred Denman is the D4 Large 9 Row Styling Brush which costs £8.66 from the Denman website.
