A massage in my own home? On one hand it sounded like the upmost luxury, on the other it felt invasive – the reason I like going for massages is because it’s a chance to get out my messy out and into a sanctuary. There was only one way to test this. I booked a home massage in for Tom and I through Urban Massage.
Bang on the dot at 3pm, the doorbell rang. It was Bogdan, Tom’s masseur. Not long after, my masseuse, Ilona, arrived. Like paramedics arriving on the scene, they sped upstairs with scary efficiency, lugging their mobile massage beds behind them. Before I knew it, the beds were invitingly setup, all our masseurs required were 3 towels – 2 large and 1 small.
Whilst the beds don’t actually take up that much space, we decided that it would be easier for us to be in different spaces – Tom in our bedroom, me in the lounge. If the neighbours had happened to glance across at just the right time, they might have caught a glimpse of my hurried striptease down to my pants. But back to our massage and the beds. It was so comfy. I’m normally not that comfy sticking my head in the hole but maybe my face has grown for it was just lovely. Both of us had booked in sports massages – we’re great believers in pummelling out the aches and pains. Throughout, Ilona (pronounced Joanna), asked me whether the pressure was right. It was just enough to make me feel it, but not enough for me to cry out in pain.
I won’t describe exactly how the massage went, mainly because it’s always better to experience it, plus I can’t remember the details. When I turned onto my back, I was so relaxed I actually had a cheeky little shnuffly snore. Whatever Ilona was doing to my feet and legs, it was heaven. And my hairy legs didn’t even phase her.
One hour went by so quickly. I could have stayed suspended in midair in my lounge for the rest of the day had Ilona not had other clients to see.
With the same efficiency shown during the set-up, Bogdan and Ilona packed everything up and in minutes were out the door.
Still in a daze, Tom and I caught up. We both liked that our masseurs had additional qualifications; Bogden is a physio and Ilona is also a personal trainer. The one issue Tom found with his massage was that the wooden floors in our bedroom made for a slidey bed. Otherwise, it was genuinely wonderful.
I loved not having to drag my clothes on and make my way back home. Jumping off the massage bed into my own home ensured the soft, gooey post-massage feeling wasn’t lost to the harsh hecticness of the outside world. Thanks Bogden and Ilona. Thanks Urban Massage.
