Dotori is my absolute favourite for London cheap eats in Japanese / Asian food. Situated moments from Finsbury Park station, you would think it odd to find such a delicious cheap eat, nestled with the likes of a Pizza takeaway and a shop of unknown wares.
At first glance, Dotori doesn’t look like much. It’s smarter than most establishments around Finsbury Park Startion but it’s the crowded interior and queues of hopefuls that really says it all. Inside, it appears to have a yellow glow that gives off a sense of warmth. Service is brisk, but polite.
Anyway, let’s turn to the food. I’m in danger of drowning my keyboard in dribble if I don’t finish writing this soon. Whilst I don’t necessarily agree with restaurants that serve different food styles (I would much rather they got one style right), it seems to work at Dotori. Whether you’re a regular or a first-timer at Dotori, make sure you get one of the Set Menus; it’s great value for money, has all the favourites and ensures that you sample perhaps different foods than you would normally.
Dotori’s Set Menu A and C are the best in my opinion. Crispy and light tempura prawns, gooey bibimbap (warm rice in a searingly hot stone bowl that is mixed up with vegetables, meat and a raw egg), fresh sushi, crisp gyoza and an elegant bento box are all some of the dishes you can expect to find. As one of the best for cheap eats in London, Set Menus are around £20 for two people.
Just don’t forget to book!
