    The Snackoletto

March 21, 2017 by elizaflynn Leave a Comment

    crumpet topping

What do you get when you combine traditional Italian flavours with British crumpet? The Snackoletto! It’s loosely based on the traditional dish acciughe sotto pesto, but takes a fraction of the time to prepare. Crumpets are a particular favourite snack of mine; I have fond memories of dousing them in butter and savouring biting into…

With each snack put together by a nutritionist, and labelled for different times of training, these Tribe boxes cover your every need. I love getting post. Especially when it fits nicely through my letterbox and contains healthy things I…

    Viva Strawberry: Kilner Jar Recipe

    Viva Strawberry Kilner Jar Recipe

Can I just start by saying how much I love strawberries? When I was a kid I remember the best pudding we had at home was ice cream with strawberries. I’d mush them all together and eat it like soup. When I grew up, Eton Mess entered the scene and it was love at first…

Chilled Green Soup with ZICO Coconut Water

Green soup with zico coconut water

Cold soup, like gazpacho, was never a favourite for me – I didn’t get the whole cold soup concept. In fact, I’m not really a fan of cold food and I especially love my comfort food! But there are times when all you want is a cold soup. This is great as everything in it…

Lychee Jelly with ZICO Coconut Water

Lychee jelly with zico coconut water

I don’t know if you’ve ever tried them, but in Chinatown you can buy these packets of delicious exotic fruit jellies. The problem with them is that they somehow disappear from my fridge all too quickly and even worse, they’re full of all sorts of nasty stuff. So I decided to make my own using…

Er. Actually, don’t smile. Too scary.
.
Getting proper one on one time with HB is harder than getting a table at the amazing Japanese Korean restaurant down the road (do any of you guys know Dotori in Finsbury Park? If not, you’re seriously missing out. Get the prawn tempura.) You’re always hopeful and when you do get your opportunity it’s over all too quickly. HB and I sneak in snatches of precious moments, waiting for GD to sleep or for wonderful people to break their backs taking him off to practise his Bambi-like walking (it’s less back-breaky for me as my legs are so short ☺️) At the moment, @tjjgash is his favoured human so when he deigns to spend time with me, I’m damn well going to get all the cuddles and fun times in that I can. Unlike today - when he wanted to hang out with me just as he dropped a rather large and foul-smelling poo in his nappy. Thanks dude. You gross little monkey.
.
Anyone else have the same issues? That they miss the times they used to have with their eldest since the second came along?
    • Auntie Rosie! Hold my bottom!

Turns out @digitalflynn needs to work on her HB-carrying technique. Or maybe she just needs to work on her upper body strength... 😬

    • I’m not sure who was more excited at getting to go on the Merry-Go-Round. Since getting over my disappointment that HB isn’t the kind of kid who’ll happily wander about in an animal onesie (why else have kids if only to dress them up in ridiculous outfits?) I’ve found other ways to fulfil my childish aspirations. I’ve been trying to get HB onto a merry-go-round for AGES and this week he finally got excited about it!
.
With the Thames breeze in our hair and the beautiful sound of jangly music in our ears, along with HB’s delighted squeals of “IM RIDING A HORSE!!” we went round and round (at a much faster speed than I’d anticipated) until both of us felt quite dizzy and a little sick. .
NB. This is HB’s half excited / half ‘ok, I feel a little sick now’ face.
    • No words needed ☺️
    • Hung out with a few childhood favourites at @somersethouse earlier this week. The ferals favourite was the movie room - had to literally drag them out! GD mostly liked eating things he shouldn’t. Like my scarf. Hair. Beanbags. The usual 🤣
.
Thanks @digitalflynn and @heroic_knitting for a fabulous day out ❤️
    • My loves ❤️ and the ONLY photo we got as a family on holiday!
.
📷 Taken at Narumi, the Japanese restaurant at @hrhtenerife where we spent most of our evenings ☺️Couldn’t get enough of their udon!
    • I miss our holiday rituals. Like this one where we’d sneak ingredients in from the supermarket opposite our hotel, make cheese sandwiches for lunch and eat them by the kids pool or beach club. HB never got tired of cheese sandwiches. We never got tired of hearing him exclaim I LOVE CHEESE SANDWICHES at the top of his voice. And no, we weren’t allowed a nibble ☺️
